The Treatments
McTimoney Chiropractic

Today, chiropractic is the largest primary healthcare profession in the western world after medicine and dentistry. It is an independent branch of medicine specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of biomechanical, muscle and nerve dysfunction. Through subtle adjustments chiropractic treatment can relieve pain and discomfort, increase mobility and provide a route to better health.

The McTimoney approach to chiropractic is based on a whole body assessment of the individual, concentrating not only on structural misalignments and subluxations, but also on their general wellbeing and quality of life. As the body works as a whole, it seems clear that it should be treated as a whole, and whilst it is certainly true that people usually seek relief from pain, the aim of a McTimoney chiropractor is to stimulate the body's own self-healing mechanism and facilitate a return to optimum health. The way this is achieved is through a series of fast, low-force adjustments of not only the spine, but also the sacrum, pelvis and the cranium. The arms and legs are also routinely mobilised at every treatment. This series of light re-balancing adjustments are very comfortable for the patient to receive and means that the approach is suitable for all age groups from the very young to the old and frail.

Chiropractic is not just for back pain - the following conditions very often benefit from treatment: neck and shoulder pain, joint pain and stiffness, migraine and tension headaches, sciatica, whiplash, muscular aches and pains, pain during pregnancy and sports injuries.

The initial appointment will take around 90 minutes so that a concise history can be taken, followed by testing, resulting in a working diagnosis and treatment plan, followed by an initial treatment.  Subsequent appointments take around 40 minutes.  These appointments are not rushed so they allow time for advice on rehabilitation and preventative measures following treatment.  Patients are encouraged to ask questions at all stages so that they can participate fully in their recuperation.

Sports Therapy

This includes the examination and assessment of sports injuries and general soft tissue injuries, planning and implementing appropriate treatment regimes for the patient, soft tissue massage and manipulation, rehabilitation and electrotherapy. But don’t think you need to be an athlete to see a sports therapist - their services are applicable to anyone with an injury or requiring rehabilitation.

Injuries can occur in any physical activity, recovery can be painful and slow without the right help. A sports therapist can help recent injuries heal faster and manage and rehabilitate long term injuries properly to reduce the likelihood of further damage or reoccurrence.

Initial consultation and treatment (30 mins) - £35
Subsequent appointments (30 mins) - £30

Bowen Technique

Simply stated, the Bowen Technique resets the body to heal itself. The work consists of a series of gently rolling connective tissue moves, using a light touch and may be done through clothing. There are frequent important pauses between these moves, which give the body time to benefit from each set. A unique tool of the Bowen practitioner is "tissue tension sense," meaning the practitioner is able to discern stress buildup in muscle groups and then utilize Bowen moves to release that stress. For more information on the Bowen Technique, please visit www.bter.org.

Initial consultation and treatment (approx 60 mins) - £40
Subsequent appointments (45 mins) - £40

Deep Tissue and Sports Massage

Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage are closely related. The former is involved specifically with dealing with sports injuries and sports injury prevention, whereas the latter is more involved with resolving the conditions caused by any injury or tension however it is caused. The purpose of both Sports and Deep Tissue Massage is to seek out areas of tension within the musculoskeletal system and, by the use of a combination of massage techniques, reduce or eliminate that tension.

Progressive Kinesiology

Kinesiology was developed by a chiropractor called Dr George Goodhart who made a connection between various muscles and the acupuncture meridians. He found that by testing muscles before and after making corrections, he achieved better results for his patients.

Progressive Kinesiology uses muscle testing to get an overall picture of what is happening in your body and how it isaffecting you and your meridian system. Muscle testing can also identify what affected the meridians at the outset and indicate the best way forward to deal with the imbalance.  Progressive Kinesiology employs other non-invasive techniques to establish which is the priority issue to be dealt with, be it emotional, nutritional, physical, mental or environmental.

Kinesiology is a truly holistic approach to healthcare, blending some of the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and western techniques.  It uses a range of gentle, yet powerful techniques to restore and balance the whole system, drawing on a range of healing methods and integrating them into the session where indicated by the muscle response.  Therefore each treatment is unique to the individual, enabling you to achieve optimum wellbeing in both body and mind.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

MLD is a healthy, natural and pain free way to help your body remove excess fluid, toxins and waste. It is an advanced form of massage treatment that is deeply relaxing (by calming the autonomic nervous system). All the work is done with dry hands, no oils, talc or machines are used. The rhythmical pumping technique works on increasing lymph flow and not arterial blood flow as many other massage techniques do. With repeated sessions of MLD your body will pump the lymph fluid more effectively.

MLD plays an important part in the treatment & management of Lymphoedema (both Primary and Secondary) and truncal oedema.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal Medicine is the use of plant remedies in the treatment of disease. It is the oldest known form of medicine. Herbal Medicine treats the underlying cause, rather than just the symptoms alone, restoring the balance of the body and thus enabling it to heal itself. Medical herbalists diagnose as well as prescribe, taking a holistic approach to the treatment. This means that we are an alternative and not just complementary to modern medicine. Herbal medicine may be used to treat a range of conditions including:
  • Skin conditions

  • Digestive disorders

  • Gynaecological disorders

  • Problems involving the heart such as angina, varicose veins etc

  • Immune system deficiencies

  • Musculoskeletal diseases
  • Allergies
Herbal Medicine is suitable for pregnant women and children. There are no side-effects with herbal medicine. More then ever before we recognise the importance of looking at all the client’s circumstances not simply the individual symptoms. Herbs are prescribed in a variety of forms, including tinctures, infusions, capsules etc. and each prescription is unique to the individual. In a consultation, an assessment of the physiology and constitution of each person is carried out, including a physical examination if required, leading to a tailored selection of herbs that are most appropriate for the individual. There maybe two or three follow up consultations depending on the individuals’ conditions and their progress, and the herbal prescriptions maybe altered accordingly.

Subsequent appointments - £30

Nutritional Therapy

Nutrition is your passport to health.  It is the defining factor in whether your health and fitness regime gives you the results you desire.  Real nutrition goes beyond 'you are what you eat'.  Real nutrition covers not just intake but also what is absorbed and used by the body.  It also covers the amount you eat and the times your eat.

With this in mind, Marek can advise you on tailoring food intake for fat loss or muscle gain, overcoming or managing metabolic disorders, rebalancing hormones and vitamin therapy.

2 day diet plan - £60
Health and wellness consultation - £40

Allergy Testing

Are you always tired?  Are you struggling to lose weight?  Is what you eat making you ill?

Allery and intolerance are often the last port of call for many patients whose symptoms cannot be explained, treated or understood by conventional medicine.  Food intolerance is regularly  a hidden obstacle for patients looking to lose weight, and treatment habitually achieves spectacular results.

Setting new standards in effective testing, Marek uses two methods of diagnosis in a single test (blood sample and muscle test), then can advise you as to waht steps to take to quickly eliminate symptoms and, most importantly, address the root cause of the problem.

Comprehensive allergy test  - £115
